What are the types of implant?

There are different types of implants available. All implants are synthetic silicone rubber shells filled with a silicone gel or a saline (saltwater) solution. The outer wall of the implant may be smooth or textured (rough surfaced). Generally, rough surfaced implants do not need to be massaged post operatively. Smooth implants may need to be massaged to help prevent scar contracture.

Your surgeon will recommend the particular type of implant that he feels is most appropriate for you.

Is it worth getting a breast augmentation?

It’s a major step for most women, and often a positive one. Studies have shown that breast implants can help boost self-esteem, body image, and sexual satisfaction.

How long does it take to heal?

However, most surgeons agree that a full recovery can take on average six weeks or so, and women may notice that they feel perfectly fine after about a week. Your surgeon will be able to assess your overall health and give you a more definitive timeline prior to the procedure.

How long after breast augmentation can they be touched?

Each surgeon has his or her guidelines for postoperative care. Generally, touching the breasts by your partner will be permitted by the surgeon in 4 to 6 weeks post surgery.

How long after breast augmentation will I know my bra size?

The results from breast augmentation tend to come in gradually, which means that the bra size that fits you best a month after surgery might not be the same bra size you’re wearing two or three months afterward. Things like swelling can affect the bra size you end up wearing.

What should I avoid after breast augmentation?

Sleeping on your sides or stomach or at least six weeks post surgery. Taking part in any strenuous activity like running or jumping that could cause your breasts to bounce, leading to your implants potentially getting dislodged or even opening the wound.
